Martin Short refutes reports that he dated Meryl Streep.

Martin Short has recently addressed the circulating dating rumors involving his co-star from "Only Murders in the Building," Meryl Streep. During a recent appearance on the Sunday episode of Club Random with Bill Maher, Martin took the opportunity to clear the air, stating, “We’re not a couple, we are just very close friends.”

Bill humorously responded, “Well, you should because there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple.” He went on to reference famous pairings like Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, as well as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, highlighting the impact of Hollywood power couples.

The dating speculations surrounding Martin and Meryl initially sparked earlier this month when the two were seen together at the Golden Globes. Martin's spokesperson promptly addressed the rumors, informing PEOPLE that the two are "just very good friends, nothing more."

For context, Martin was previously married to Nancy Dolman from 1980 until her unfortunate passing from ovarian cancer in 2010. The couple shared three children. Reflecting on his marriage in a 2019 interview with AARP, Martin shared, “Our marriage was a triumph, so it's tough.” He continued to express that despite her passing, he still communicates with her regularly, seeking her imaginary guidance on decisions, especially concerning their three kids.

Meanwhile, Meryl Streep officially confirmed her separation from her husband of 45 years, Don Gummer, in October 2023. The revelation added another layer to the ongoing speculation about her relationship with Martin Short.

Martin Short has unequivocally stated that he and Meryl Streep are just close friends, debunking the dating rumors that had circulated after their appearance together at the Golden Globes.
