Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio work together to reveal the exciting news.
Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio have joined forces once again in pursuit of the next Karate Kid. In a video message shared by Sony Pictures on November 21, Chan and Macchio revealed their plans for the upcoming movie set to hit theaters on December 13, 2024.
"Hi everyone! We’ve got big news," announced Chan at the outset of their video. Macchio chimed in, "We’re starring in a new Karate Kid movie together." Chan followed up, teasing, "That’s big news, but we even have bigger news. We’re looking for the next Karate Kid."
"That’s right – the global search for the star of our new film starts right now," affirmed Macchio. Drawing inspiration from Mr. Miyagi's iconic words, Macchio added, "So let’s wax on, wax off, everybody."
The actors directed viewers to the KarateKidCasting.com website for further details on auditions and character submissions.
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle (known for "I Am Not Okay With This") and penned by Rob Lieber, the new movie promises an exciting continuation of the beloved franchise.
Macchio's return to the Karate Kid universe was heralded by the success of the Cobra Kai TV series, which found a new home on Netflix in 2018.
While it was announced that the sixth season would mark the show's conclusion, Macchio reflected on its enduring popularity in a 2021 interview with PEOPLE, noting the multi-generational appeal that has kept the legacy alive for over three decades.
